"RESILIENCE & PERSEVERANCE ARE THE KEYS TO SUCCESS"
We love hearing from former students and recently Abdul got in touch out of the blue to pass on his thanks. If you're a former student and would like to share your happy memories of your time at St David's, or update us on what you're up to now, do get in touch. I joined St David’s Catholic College as a Level 2 student studying BTEC ICT. At this point in my life, I struggled with low confidence and found the course challenging.
My attitude towards education and achievement was not very good. Despite this, I was able to achieve a 'distinction' and I believe this was due to the support I was given from the college and my teacher, Ms Hazell.
I view Ms Hazell as my role model as she inspired me to exceed beyond my target grade. She made the lessons engaging and challenging and always had high expectations.
The level of encouragement and guidance I received motivated me to work harder and meet the standards my teachers knew I could reach.
My target grades for almost all my subjects were Bs & Cs, however I left St David’s with four A* - Cs.
Not only did I surprise myself but my fellow peers too. I had changed as a person, my attitude towards education, working hard and embracing opportunities was sparked by the staff at this college.
My confidence increased massively and this allowed me to dream big and set goals which I never thought I would have dreamed of.
"My college experience taught me a lifelong lesson; that resilience and perseverance are they key to success."
The teachers at St David’s had shown me that everything is possible in life if you’re committed.
One statement which resonates with me to this day was when my teacher said ‘you are the architect of your life’.
She inspired me to become a teacher and make a difference in the lives of students, just as she made a difference to mine.
With this new attitude, my grades in hand and my motivation to succeed, I moved to London to teach Economics and Business Studies at a local secondary school.
In my first year as a teacher I became an examiner for AS Business Studies. I became 2nd in charge for Economics and Business and the following year I became the head of department for Business Studies and Economics.
"My career has accelerated fast and this would have not been possible without the support and encouragement I received during my time at St David’s."
I simply would not be where I am today if it was not for teachers like Ms Hazell and Mr Eedy.
As I continue to progress in my career, I will always look back and be proud to have been supported by my teachers.
I know that every goal I achieve, every target I set and every success I make; is a shared victory between myself and my teachers at St David's.
Thank you to everyone at St David’s who has helped me become the person I am today.
"Sometimes I look back and reflect on my journey and going to St David’s was the best decision I have ever made in my life."
It’s been around 8/9 years since I have left college but I always cherish the memories I have made during my time at St David’s.
I wish everyone at St David’s best of luck for the upcoming exams – I’m sure the College will get amazing results like they do every year.
